Several Freshman Were Asked Why They Came "I had attended PS 40 and when I graduated from there I went to PS 104 right across the street. I had always been fascinated with SVA ever since I was a kid. I knew that I loved to draw and back then I was really big into the comic book drawing and that’s what I wanted to do. I remember that there were some students from SVA that came over to PS 40. I was in the fifth grade and I remember how cool it was that I was being complimented on my drawings by students from SVA." "Why I came to SVA? The answer is really simple; I love art. I have never tried to do anything else but being creative. ...I wanted to explore more about art and challenge myself. That is why I am here today, to challenge myself and learn from others. I sometimes picture myself being a member of Pixar or Lucasfilms although it is just a faint daydream. 2% of me still believes that one day I can achieve this dream. Through this education, I’m hoping to build confidence, and 98% of skills that I need to achieve my dream." "Attending an art school has become a necessity for me because I am very serious about pursuing computer art as a profession. I realized that computer art was the best major for me when I was attending high school. We had received an assignment where we were to use our imagination and create a postcard (drawn from scratch) in Photoshop. I enjoyed the idea of combining traditional art with digital media and I knew that I wanted to make a living creating such works of art. I came across SVA through the Pixar web site. It was listed under the schools that potential computer animators should consider attending. After conducting extensive research and comparing it with other art schools, I decided that attending SVA will be most beneficial in terms of developing useful skills and getting a good job" " I am currently enrolled to SVA's computer art department for several reasons. The first being the passion for art that I've had for as long as I can remember. ... I don't believe I'd feel whole in any other type of school or environment. On the flipside to my creative mindset, technology, especially computers, is also an intrinsic part of my life. In kindergarten I crashed our first computer (a Macintosh) by filling it up with images created in its painting program. I keep this memory as a precedent for where the rest of my life has gone, and where I hope it will continue to explore."
