The facilities at SVA are second to none. Apple and Boxx computers are abundant. We train our students to work fluidly from one computer platform to another, as interoperability issues are paramount.

Continuing Education students do not have lab access beyond their class meeting time.
Full-time SVA undergraduates and graduate students currently enrolled in classes scheduled in the Computer Art Department may have lab access in non-restricted labs per availability.
Computer Art majors have priority access to all labs as well as exclusive access to Room 204.
Junior and Senior Computer Art majors have free time access to post production labs in Rooms 309 and 310.
Freshman and Sophomore Computer Art majors have free time access to the post production lab in Room 208.
EQUIPMENT CHECK OUT/ CHECK IN TIMES
For check-out of all video equipment, including cameras, tripods, firewirse and lights, as well as headphones and Wacom tablest, etc:

CHECK OUT: 4 PM - 9:30 PM
SATURDAY: CHECK IN: 10 AM - 1 PM CHECK OUT: 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM
SUNDAY: CHECK IN: 1 PM - 3 PM CHECK OUT: 5 PM - 8:30 PM
HEADPHONES & WACOM TABLETS MUST BE RETURNED ON THE SAME DAY. THEY ARE NOT TO BE REMOVED FROM THE PREMESIS.

SVA BFACAD EQUIPMENT CHECK-OUT POLICY:
The following is a general outline of the BFA Computer Arts Department equipment check-out policy. This was created to assist and organize your stay at the school. To ensure that all students have equal access to equipment and facilities, you are required to follow the guidelines set forth in this list. Failure to do so may result in fines and/or restricted access to equipment. If you have any questions, please call the 2nd floor Front Office Managers at 212 592 2525.
EQUIPMENT ACCESS:
All students picking up equipment must present a valid SVA ID Card with a CAD sticker for the given semester. This sticker can be obtained at the registrar’s office. Students without a CAD sticker may not check-out equipment.
Equipment is available to BFA Computer Arts Department Majors only. If you are a non-major and enrolled in a Digital Video class you may not check-out equipment for off-premises use. It will only be available to you for in-class use only.
Freshman and Sophomore BFACAD majors must be enrolled in a Digital Video class to check-out equipment. Access includes one night check-out of High 8 Cameras and one night check out of DV Cameras and lighting equipment, per availability.
Junior and Senior BFACAD majors’ access includes two night check out of all DV equipment. Friday check-outs are due on Monday. Junior and Senior students have first priority for check-outs.

RESERVATIONS:
Reservations can be made with Ashley Lamb or Sebastian Ebarb in the 2nd floor front office. Please stop by or call 212 592 2525.
All lighting equipment must be reserved two days prior to check-out.
Cancellation of reserved equipment must be made 24 hours in advance. Please contact the front office manager on duty to make your cancellation. Failure to do so will result in a No-Show fine of $15.00.
FACULTY CHECK-OUTS:
Faculty members may only reserve up to 1 camera for in-class demonstrations. Faculty members will follow the same check-out procedure as students and will be held responsible for the safe return of this equipment. Faculty members are asked not to leave their equipment unattended with their students. Any additional equipment must be formally checked-out by students in the class. Please remember, whoever signs out equipment will be held responsible for any damages. Faculty reservations must be made one week prior to class with KATE SCHAFFER @ kschaffer@sva.edu
NOTE : PLEASE INSPECT ALL EQUIPMENT UPON CHECK-OUT. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TESTING ALL ITEMS STATED ON THEIR CONTRACT BEFORE LEAVING THE 2ND FLOOR. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY, CARE, AND REPLACEMENT COSTS OF ALL EQUIPMENT SIGNED OUT UNDER YOUR NAME. IF YOU FIND THE EQUIPMENT IS NOT IN WORKING ORDER UPON CHECK-OUT, IMMEDIATELY RETURN THE EQUIPMENT TO THE FRONT OFFICE AND LET THE MANAGER KNOW THE PROBLEM. THIS WAY YOU WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGES.
DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT:
IF YOU LOSE OR DAMAGE EQUIPMENT, YOU WILL LOSE CHECK-OUT PRIVILEGES UNTIL THE EQUIPMENT IS REPAIRED OR REPLACED
STUDENTS DAMAGING EQUIPMENT WILL BE CHARGED $50.00 PER HOUR LABOR COST PLUS REPLACEMENT PART COSTS.
STUDENTS WHO LOSE OR DAMAGE EQUIPMENT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REIMBURSING THE SCHOOL FOR THE FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE. STUDENTS CAN ARRANGE A PAYMENT PLAN WITH THE BFACAD OFFICE.
Be aware of the danger of theft. Always assign a member of your crew the specific task of watching equipment. Never work alone or leave equipment unattended. Don’t forget that you are responsible for replacing any items lost or broken during your usage.
Never exchange or lend equipment listed on your contract with other students, YOU are responsible for any damage or loss of equipment under your name on the contract form. Students are prohibited from lending their name so someone else can take out equipment.
NOTE:
Never try to repair equipment on your own. If problems occur, return the equipment back to the front office.
FINES:
Full Cost to be reimbursed for any broken, stolen or lost equipment, plus $50.00 per hour labor charge for any repairs. Payment plans can be arranged.
$15.00 - Failure to pick up reserved equipment. You must call 24 hours in advance to cancel a reservation.
$25.00 - Late return of equipment (per day)
If you anticipate returning equipment late, please call the front office manager on duty at 212 592 2525 to avoid being fined.
Students with unpaid fines will not be able to check-out any more equipment until the fine is paid. Fines cannot be carried over into the next semester. Transcripts will be held until fines are paid.
Fines must be paid directly to the BFACAD office. Payments must be by CHECK only and addressed to the School of Visual Arts. Please include your student ID number.
THERE IS NO EATING OR DRINKING ON THE 2ND OR 3RD FLOOR. IF YOU ARE FOUND EATING OR DRINKING YOU WILL LOSE ACCESS TO THE LABS.
